How can you improve the performance and user experience of your digital publishing content?

UX (User Experience) One way improve user experience is improving your page speed. The ideal page load time should not more than 2 to 3 seconds. I want to share few simple things regarding image and video optimization. Compress all the images and videos before loading them to your site. Use appropriate image formats. Resize images to the actual dimensions they will be displayed on the website. Implement lazy loading for images. This way the images are only loaded when they come into the user's viewport. Instead of self-hosting try using different video hosting platforms like YouTube or Vimeo to optimize playback based on the users factors. Use video formats like MP4 as they are widely supported by different devices and browsers.

While working on a client's site, my team faced slow loading due to large images, hampering user experience. To tackle this, we employed potent image compression (tools like compressnow, tinypng) and lazy loading, boosting initial load times and saving bandwidth.Results were impressive: site speed enhanced across devices, elevating user experience and engagement. Prioritizing image size reduction is vital, even for well-built sites. WordPress users can rely on plugins like Smush for automatic image compression in the media library, including existing images, enhancing performance. After these optimizations, the results were remarkable.The website's loading time improved significantly, and the overall user experience became much smoother.

A couple of tips: Consistency: Stick to a few fonts (2-3) throughout your design for a cohesive look. Readability: Prioritize readability. Choose legible fonts for body text, saving decorative fonts for headers. Hierarchy: Vary font sizes and weights to create a clear hierarchy. Headers should stand out, while body text remains easy to read. Contrast: Use contrast between fonts (size, weight, style) for emphasis. Avoid too much similarity. Compatibility: Ensure your chosen fonts work across devices and browsers. Pairing: Combine fonts that complement each other, like a serif with a sans-serif. Limited Styles: Avoid using too many font styles in a single design. Overuse can be distracting.

During a recent project, prioritizing accessibility brought remarkable results. Semantic HTML, descriptive headings, alt text, and captions improved user-friendliness. Keyboard navigation and ARIA attributes enhanced interaction. Testing with tools like WAVE and real disabled users refined our approach. Notably, our site's SEO also benefited from these accessibility enhancements, showcasing its broader significance. Other tools we used were Color Contrast Checker, Arc Toolkit, Webaim and Audioeye so it was compliant with WCAG.
