SSO authenticates: SSO verifies the user's credentials with the identity provider (IdP). 3. MFA prompt: If MFA is enabled, the user is prompted for an additional verification factor (e.g., fingerprint, security code). 4. Access granted: If the additional factor is verified, the user is granted access to the application SSO and MFA overall assist with reducing IT costs associated with password resets and account breaches.

SSO makes its much easier for IT department AND for end users to utilize MFA since it's only one identity that they need MFA for to log into multiple accounts. There are additional benefits as well such as leveraging things like conditional access if using Entra ID on accounts that font have that type of control. Its also just one identity to secure, and one identity to disable if an employee leaves. In short its easier to use for IT departments and end users alike as well adding additional security benefits.

MFA should be implemented by default, it should be implemented using modern methods And it should be implemented on a zero trust basis. Test device and user integrity and apply an appropriate policy based on the results. Apply SSO & MFA to all users (or better still, all roles or actions) to ensure that accounts and services are secure by default.

On top of SSO and MFA implementations I also want to make my network more secure, so I use conditional access policies to control who can access what based on where they are, what device they use, and how risky they are. This way, I follow the zero trust model, which means I don’t trust anyone or anything without checking them first. I also use DNS sinkholing to catch and stop bad DNS queries that could harm my systems.
