Self Assessment gives us a sense of understanding about our strengths and weaknesses. Before we even dive into any tests or modern methods, first we need to understand our emotional quotient as well. We are emotion driven beings & in a entrepreneurs life, many decisions are taken unknowingly because of that. Hence, understanding your thoughts, emotions, & acknowledging them is quite necessary. This builds like a feedback mechanism for your own self. Journalling, writing down your thoughts, goals etc are some ways you can do it.

Des de mi punto de vista, para poder identificar tus propias fortalezas, sean de innovación o de cualquier otro ámbito, lo más importante es conocerse uno mismo. Con este autoconocimiento, sabrás cuales son tus talentos, cuales son tus fortalezas, y que es lo que tienes que trabajar un poco más, para seguir creciendo como profesional. Las herramientas de autoconocimiento, pueden ayudar, pero no vale solo con eso. A veces, es necesario acompa?arse de un profesional, que te ayude ha analizarlas, y poder trazar un plan de acción, para poder mejorar como profesional.

Ser consciente y medir las propias habilidades relacionadas con la innovación, como la creatividad, el pensamiento crítico, la capacidad para resolver problemas, de comunicación y trabajo en equipo, permite potenciar en lo que somos buenos y identificar en que aspectos mejorar. También es clave examinar los resultados de las anterirores oportunidades de innovación con el fin de no repetir errores y fortalecer los resultados anteriores. Todo ello conduce a hacer posible una busqueda de oportunidades que pertmiten desarrollar en lo que se es bueno y siempre con una mentalidad abierta para aprender de tus experiencias, tanto los éxitos como los fracasos que permtien buscar maneras de crecer y mejorar en las capacidades innovadoras u otras.

For entrepreneurs, innovation is the secret sauce that propels the business forward. To unlock it’s potential, gauge it’s strengths & weaknesses by getting feedback. As a Leadership Coach, I recommend to first do some self-reflection to understand your strengths as an innovator (i.e. creative problem solver, excellent collaborator, or visionary thinker). Second, create systems that allow for continued feedback: Feedback Loop from peers, mentors, & colleagues. Experiment (test & learn) - Try new approaches, embrace failure, & optimize. Continuous Learning - Read, attend workshops, follow trends and seek inspiration (even nature!). Open Collaboration - Work with diverse teams to leverage different perspectives and skill sets.

I couldn't agree more with this point. Feedback from others is indeed a valuable method to identify our innovation strengths and weaknesses. It is also important to wisely choose whom to seek feedback from and asking the right questions tailored to our specific need. While receiving feedback, we should be open and receptive and ask follow-up questions to gain deeper insights. Feedback should be seen as an ongoing exercise to ensure that we are making progress and refining our innovation skills. We should express gratitude to those who are providing us feedback for our growth and development.

The Feedback process is highly recommendable. I follow a 6-week feedback loop with my mentors, teammates, & peers. Its important to introspect once in a while & become that feedback person for yourself as well. This practice has helped me, understand the missed checkpoints & give me clarity on places I need to improve on. The simplest way to start is to start at home.

Al final, hacer innovación, es hacer las cosas diferentes, y eso, podemos hacerlo todos, si, dedicamos un poco de nuestro tiempo a observar, leer, informarnos de lo que hacen otros, y ..... aplicar aquello, que nosotros, no estamos haciendo.

From my experience, immersing oneself in innovation challenges is a proven method to gauge one's aptitude in both generating and executing innovative ideas. I believe that such challenges, spanning domains from technology to social impact, provide tangible benchmarks for success and areas of growth. From my perspective, embracing these challenges is not only a testament to one's commitment to innovation but also a powerful learning opportunity.

Des de mi punto de vista, para poder identificar y desarrollar habilidades de innovación, como ya decía antes, una de las ideas, es observar, leer, informarnos de lo que hacen otros, y ..... aplicar aquello, que nosotros, no estamos haciendo. Participar en programas y concurso a también es una buena manera de desarrollar la innovación, pero sobre todo de aprender a trabajar en equipo, para co-crear alguna idea, producto, servicio innovador.

I find this point slightly ironic, almost like teaching entrepreneurship as a subject in schools. While the lessons and structure may be useful for some, I think that innovation is difficult to 'box up' and is often found when one allows his/her inner child to be creative and explore. As Sir Ken Robinson espoused in his widely viewed TED Talk, schools can kill creativity. To me, what is more helpful is to break away from the routine. Spend time simply doing nothing, go to a new city, meet new people and immerse yourself in new environments. Innovation is often a response to problems faced or observed. When we get too comfortable in the same environment (and haven't started solving anything there), perhaps it's time to look beyond!

Crafting a comprehensive innovation plan is pivotal to pinpointing both your strengths and potential areas for improvement in the realm of innovation. I believe that by delineating your innovation vision, mission, and objectives, you not only set a strategic direction but also uncover areas that require enhancement. From my perspective, an innovation plan doesn't just guide your efforts but provides a structured lens through which you can critically assess and refine your innovation capabilities.

You and have all the tools and processes in the world; but the most important aspect is time. Innovation takes place over the years. Blackberry continued to grow for more than 4 years after the iPhone was introduced. Kodak continued to grow for 6 years after the digital camera was introduced. Blockbuster continued to grow for 7 years after Netflix. Innovation takes time, nothing becomes an innovation overnight.

The combination of these methods is often more effective than relying on a single approach. Regularly reviewing and updating your assessment methods can also help you adapt to changing innovation dynamics within your organization. In addition to the methods mentioned in the article, benchmarking, brainstorming and expert consultation would also significantly contribute in identifying the innovation strength and weakness.
