Obviously communicating it with right people at right time is very important in finding opportunity that goes in hand with aspirations.

One thing that would be helpful is to have a broad tenure goal in mind for current organization ( for ex 3-5 yrs) One can also have planned milestones in mind (18-24 months) for current role before you initiate for change in role Assessing skills and noting functions in which you can make valuable contributions basis on skills will also help in alerting to opportunities for career advancement
