on using machines: -do not wait until the machine broke down, have at least some plans for it, do not depend on only having one machine with the same purpose -during time all machines with need maintenance, keep all old catalogues, have record on last maintenance, sizes and details of the operations -many of machines can be bought and refurbished, unfortunately, productive machines are not only fully gear programmable, many times need a manual machines to do the job. Many times I have seen that structures of new machines are so weak, so having the old one and refurbish it is so economical and still will do the job. -always be open for new people and expert on the zone of manufacturing

One thing, basically it is not one, but accumulating many aspects of manufacturing, a fabricator or workshop needs correct tools. we can save of tools by: -sharpening Carbide tools if possible -use tools with inserts professionally, that means know what type of inserts are ok for cutting proper material -train machinist to check their tools time to time -team working on checking all maintenance on the new and old machines -talk the details of working tools with your machinists and buyer of the tools

Understanding the KPI of the Maintenance such as OEE, MTBF, Plant Efficiency, and etc. These Numbers Will give you what IS working and whats not. Start to strategise where the low percentage of KPI IS missing. To be objective we need to have those Numbers Available to ensure to have a Good plan resolving those poor performance. Make sure that All needed factors are Available so that everybody understand why you are failing or In better shape and just need continual improvement program.
