Feedback is most powerful when timely, and most constructively received. But it must be communicated sensitively. If feedback becomes an attack, we go into defence mode. We no longer hear, we are no longer open. The feedback should be specific and focused on how you perceived the moment. Not personal, not abstract. You should take the time to explain your perspective, including as well some positive feedback. Then make sure you leave lots of time, in a safe space go discuss, and here their perspective. There are always multiple sides, and we all see the world with our own unique perspectives. So understanding and growth first requires common understanding. This then is a platform for growth and improvement.

3 Provide support and guidance

After communicating clearly, you need to provide support and guidance to your team members to help them improve their performance. Depending on the situation, you may need to offer different types of support, such as training, coaching, mentoring, feedback, resources, or incentives. For example, you may need to train them on new skills or tools, coach them on how to overcome challenges or develop strategies, mentor them on how to grow their career or network, give them regular and constructive feedback, provide them with the necessary resources or tools, or reward them for their achievements or progress. The goal is to help them develop their competencies, confidence, and commitment.

Feedback should come with a path forward. Show you believe in them, and want them to succeed. Show you are on their side, and extend a hand of support and options. Provide a menu of choices, and let the individual choose and build their plan to grow and develop. with your support. When we feel we have support and encouragement we most often grow into this belief. And we all benefit from this growth and development. Building deep trust and partnership for the future.

If this happens, you may need to take further actions, such as reassigning, demoting, or terminating your team members. You should also consult with your HR or legal department, and follow the policies and procedures of your organization. Taking further actions can be difficult and unpleasant, but sometimes necessary to protect the interests of your team and your client.
