How can you help your audience set achievable goals?

En mi opinión establecer objetivos es una de las partes más importantes en cualquier proyecto que se inicie. Si somos capaces de establecer objetivos SMART podremos trazar mejor la estrategia y los planes B o C según desviaciones. Por ejemplo, en muchos casos las empresas suelen poner como objetivo en sus planes estratégicos de marketing mejorar su posicionamiento de marca. Y un objetivo así carente de medición, tiempo, recursos es totalmente ineficiente.

I agree that goal setting is valuable for individuals as it provides direction, motivation, and a sense of accomplishment. SMART goals offer a structured approach, enhancing the likelihood of success by making objectives clear and attainable. It's crucial to tailor goals to individual needs and ensure they align with one's values for a more meaningful and fulfilling journey.

Setting goals that stretch you to discover what you are capable of can be truly inspirational. Goals should relate to your ideals of success in whatever form you feel is best suited to progress. Goals should be specific to an outcome and a timeline, with regular intervals, and milestones that help you evaluate and make adjustments if required. It's crucial to recognize that goals are not the starting point for clarity and vision. Rather, they are the stepping stones that follow. True clarity and vision stem from a deliberate intention, a deep understanding of one's values, and a clear sense of direction. Goals, in this context, act as milestones, helping to maintain focus, boost motivation, and measure progress. However, without a well-defined intention and vision, goals can become disconnected and misaligned, leading to frustration or a sense of failure and unfulfillment.

We all want to be a better version of ourselves, and be able to earn more in our work and careers. Many people want it to happen, but are not ready to break down the steps on how this can happen for them. For example, the statement “I would like to increase my sales by 50% in 2024” will be a vague goal. “I would like to increase my sales by 10K a month” if you are already making 20K a month. This would be possible, if I have 2 more clients that pay me $5K a month, or 3 clients that pay me $3.3K a month. How will you get the 3 additional clients? Will it be by hosting a monthly event or webinar for 100 people, where 3% is the conversion? Be specific, but more importantly set measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound goals!

Set S.M.A.R.T. goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Frame with actions: Who will do what by when? E.g. Our marketing team will create and promote a webinar on our new product feature to generate 500 registrations in the next 3 months. Track progress quantitatively and adapt actions if needed to accomplish the end goal.

Lets breakdown each component of SMART goals 1. Specific: Define goals clearly, like "30-minute morning jogs. 2. Measurable: Set measurable targets, e.g., "Finish one book monthly. 3. Achievable: Ensure goals are realistic; consider resources. 4. Relevant: Align goals with values and interests for motivation. 5. Time-bound: Add deadlines, like "Learn Spanish in three months. Following these SMART principles ensures clear, attainable goals, fostering success and motivation.

Breaking down goals into actionable steps, setting priorities, and addressing potential challenges enhances the likelihood of success. Regular review and celebrating achievements provide ongoing motivation and adaptability in the pursuit of goals. 1. Steps Breakdown: Detail main and sub-steps for each goal. 2. Sequence: Arrange steps logically for a smooth process. 3. Priority, Deadline, Responsibility: Prioritize, set deadlines, and assign responsibilities. 4. Start with your goal, then create your plan, including timelines and resources and any obstacles that may hinder your progress. Every plan should contain timelines that help monitor your journey toward success. Use your plan carefully and be ready to make adjustments if and when required.

Majority of the time, there are environmental factors involved, whether it’s our home, friends or workplace for us to feel “motivated” or “unmotivated”. Hanging around with friends who exercise will naturally “motivate” you to exercise more or even together. How can we make a habit easier to start, and have continuation or momentum? If I wanted to practice on my guitar daily, I would place my guitar next to where I spend the most time daily, and make sure that my guitar is not zipped up in the bag. For me, reading books has been enjoyable, and something I wanted to keep doing! So, I make sure I plan monthly visits to dine or hang out at the building(s) the library is located at, to be able to borrow the books I would like to read.

A vision without a goal is just a dream. By creating clear and measurable goals, you are already on your way to success. A critical aspect of goal setting is the self-discipline to complete the daily actions required to achieve your goals. Re-visit your "why" and maintain focus on the result and how you will feel when success is yours.
