Assessing my strengths and weaknesses as an executive leader involves utilizing tools like SWOT analysis, 360-degree feedback, and executive coaching. This process enables a comprehensive understanding of my current position and future aspirations. By pinpointing areas for improvement and leveraging my potential, I can craft a tailored development plan to align with my goals and preferences.

I'm a staunch advocate for helping folks identify their superpowers, helping them see and own them, and then leveraging them in how and what message to craft & presence they want to showcase. Why? We live in a world where "Executive Presence" is defined by centuries of monarchy or nation-state institutions. We often conform to standards and practices that don't match our persona, personality, or baseline cultural preferences. I help folks find their voice, see their genuine and authentic selves, and guide them on how to break through to unshackle themselves and unleash the Kraken within! You must leverage what you've learned from your dramas and trauma, bring levity, and exude motivation for your vision to be your true, authentic self!

I totally agree. There are many ways of learning. I also believe in the wisdom of the crowd. If you chat with 10 persons you would have 10 different perspectives and either 10 things you should do/utilize or 10 things you definitely should not. In any case you are ahead in what your action should!!!!

As an executive leader, seeking feedback from stakeholders is crucial for growth. One unique approach I've found effective is organizing 'Walk & Talk' sessions. Instead of conventional meetings, I invite stakeholders for a walk in a natural setting. The change in environment fosters open conversation and creative thinking. Walking side by side creates a relaxed atmosphere, encouraging candid insights and perspectives. This approach not only strengthens connections but also provides valuable feedback for my leadership journey.

Having a mentor, coach, or experienced trusted advisor could share advice, share knowledge, and provide support. Additionally, consider attending executive education or leadership programs that bring together professionals at your level, facilitate knowledge, and grow your network.

In order apply different leadership styles a crucial first step is creating a foundation of self-awareness. Without awareness of your patterns of actions, underlying beliefs and assumptions little will change. It’s like trying to drive faster with the same size engine. Often unconsciously: fear, anxiety, lack of worthiness, the need for safety and control are showing up without our awareness. Start with getting really good at understanding what is happening for you in any given moment. Are you above or below the line? Only from this place of understanding how I am reacting or responding a shift in action or behaviour will occur. From here the choice of leading, differently, can emerge.

Reflect on the outcomes of different approaches. What worked well? What didn't? This self-awareness will help you refine your leadership toolkit. Remember, the goal isn't to become a master of every style but to develop a repertoire that enables you to respond effectively to diverse circumstances.

Executive leaders thrive on adaptability, recognizing that no single style suits every context or individual. Mastery comes from understanding a range of leadership models and skillfully applying the most appropriate one to each unique situation. The real power lies in personalizing these techniques to align with your authentic leadership persona, ensuring that your approach remains genuine. Situational leadership is crucial for success. For instance, a new junior team member may need more guidance and direction compared to a senior team member. Similarly, a team member who lacks motivation may require a different approach than one who is self-motivated. Adapting your leadership style to fit the needs of each team member or leader will lead to greater success.

This is where executive support professionals can shine if leaders can drop ego and implore high trust. The main objective of the EA role is to enhance the productivity of the executive. They are adept at studying the patterns in an executive's work, energy levels, hurdles, and more to create an unofficial playbook or dossier on that executive. They are a well placed 3rd party who can offer insights into how the leader can grow. I've seen EAs research and high PR experts for the execs they support completely independently because I knew it aligned with the objective of their role and had the autonomy to move forward as they saw fit. This resulted in the executive's growth in public speaking and better aligning with clients' needs.

Carve out regular space for self-reflection to gain insight, adjust course, and prevent burnout - your mindset and choices cascade to the organisation. Periodically examine if your perspective aligns with ecological realities and all stakeholders' ethical needs. Sustainability leadership calls for lifelong learning and development at both the personal and organisational levels to meet rapidly changing, complex challenges.

Establish a system for regular feedback, not just from superiors but also from peers and direct reports – use formal performance reviews and 360-degree feedback but also informal check-ins. Make it known that you are receptive to constructive criticism and willing to engage in dialogues about your performance. When seeking feedback, ask specific questions rather than general ones since this approach yields more actionable insights, and use the feedback received to update your development plan. Regularly reflect on the feedback and your own self-assessment. Identify patterns and take action steps to address them. By seeking feedback and focusing on improvement, you signal your dedication to becoming an even more effective leader.

An often overlooked yet highly effective way to receive valuable feedback as an executive is through high-performing peer group communities. These can be formal or informal, but having a group of true peers in an open and honest venue can provide extremely valuable insight into how you can improve as a leader. Surrounding yourself with these high-performing peers outside of your company brings fresh ideas, processes, and improvements into your business, and allows your company to mature and scale using best practices that might not be easily identified or developed internally.

By driving innovation, you encourage a mindset of continuous improvement and creativity among your team which can lead to breakthroughs and success. With that said, remember to take advantage of the benefit of your role – flexibility - because you have earned this benefit with hard work! Model a holistic approach to success that values both hard work and reaping the benefits of it - set an example for other leaders.

Once I spoke with a senior leader in the industry and asked a question - "What is the number 1 trait a Leader should have?". The immediate reply was "Empathy". Empathetic Leadership is a skill that can be developed through Coaching, and by practicing it over a period of time, any Leader can develop this skill.

I’m convinced that a key aspect of executive leadership is creating opportunities for the organization by working with new horizontal concepts that don’t have a single calculus. Often these new ideas may seem radical to industry participants entrenched in the field but straightforward to new participants. To succeed, one must separate potential opportunities from inherent limitations stemming from the company’s own particular context. Consequently, I view part of growing as an executive leader as staying “fresh” and “open” to concepts in the market in general and understanding how innovation occurs / problems are solved in a variety of industries.
