How can you be a great mentee in copywriting?

Well first of all the obvious which is find the right mentor. Here's how you do it: seek out someone who’s not just a wizard with words, but also resonates with your aspirations. This mentor should be where you aim to be, wielding the skills and style you crave to master. Once you spot your mentor, approach them with respect and clarity. Spell out why their guidance lights your path and what you're itching to achieve. Finding the right mentor is more than just ticking a box. It’s about connecting with someone who can not just teach you but inspire you on your journey to copywriting greatness.

"I'm looking for someone I can mentor." That's what the boss at my first job said to me from the get-go. He then carved out time for me at 8am most mornings (before the office opened at 9:30am) to show me the ropes. Find someone who will do that for you and you are set for life.

A good mentor is a blessing and acts as a pillar in your successful career. Search for a good, authoritative, and great mentor who guides you and teaches you in your style. Find a mentor whose style is easy and relatable for you. Many great people are there online but not all can align with your values and style. Choose the one whose teacher inspires you, whose style is familiar to you and who is an ideal mentor for you.

when you have clear goals for your journey it will be easy to track the progress. Set clear goals and define what you want to achieve and how it would be possible. use some tools or write out your plans and make them achievable by breaking them into small steps to follow. By dividing them it will be more easy to stick to them and to achieve them without feeling any burden.

A good learner ask good questions. this define your curiosity towards your learning and topic. Take interest in your learning and enjoy learning the skill by asking question. never be shy to ask silly question , sometime your small question solve a bigger problem of your learning in future.

Being one right now. Try to grind yourself as hard as you can. Learn, un-learn, and re-learn. Make the most out of it. Ask every kind of questions; stupid to advance.

Kick the idea of pride out the door. You don't want to accept a mentor that belittles you, but you also need to enable yourself to hear the betterment in criticism. Almost all feedback is a comment on a mentees potential because someone with no potential at all leaves someone struggling to find words for where to begin. One of my favourite moments in my writing career was when I submitted a piece of work to an editor and they advised me that the content was good, but the context was off. "they come to a blog to hear about you and they come to us to hear about themselves". I was younger so this wasn't already obvious to me, but even the seemingly obvious should be received as a "yay, lets run with this" and not a "why am i so stupid"

If you're a mentee, search for other mentees to network with and speak to. Share learnings to help each other improve, share mistakes to help each other avoid them in the future, and even share work to help with feedback. Giving feedback is just as important as getting feedback; spotting mistakes/possible improvements in other people's work will help you hone your proofing skills which you can then use on your own work. Lean on each other and don't be afraid to share your knowledge - that's how we improve and how we grow!

Every day is a school day, and it's so important to remember this. Even though you'll look to your mentor for guidance and wisdom, it's important to remember they won't know everything and you'll almost certainly have different ways of going about your work and getting things done. Don't be afraid to reciprocate what your mentor is doing for you and offer to help with something they're working on, or see if you can contribute to one of their projects in some way. Even though you're the mentee, that doesn't mean you can't add your own value or opinions to what they're doing.
