Using the SMART criteria at the beginning is always the best way to go. As instructors, sometimes it can be difficult to to think of ideas that match at least one letter in adding game elements. I would begin researching the textbooks that you like, look at the resources they offer if you use their text. I use a couple Pearson products. One of them I use has simulations. I can tell you since I've used them for quite a few years, the students always say in my final evaluation is that they love the simulations. They like the problem solving aspect, and then every decision they make through the simulation determines the next. Other publishing companies may offer resources like this. My students look at it as a game and love it!

I quite like to encourage learners to view all learning activities as 'games'. Most learning is simply a process of some kind, the more we can remove the 'seriousness' from it the better. I know this isn't quite what is meant by 'gamification', but I'll leave the more correct answers to others!
