In my experience, being prepared for when opportunities arise is key. What this could look like: 1) signing up for newsletters of organizations I’m interested in learning more about or whose opportunities I have heard about and am interested in learning about the next application cycle 2) turning on notifications for all posts by “job/opportunity fairies” on LinkedIn (people who share a lot of these) 3) following organizations on instagram and turning on notifications for posts by them 4) learning about opportunity sites and checking them at least once per month 5) creating a deadline tracker for applying to opportunities
