It usually starts while browsing the works of other creators/designers. You can learn a lot about your skill level by reverse engineering their creations. And once in a while you will find something that baffles you. How did they do it? How would I do it? That's the project you take and try to replicate. You've found your challenge. I usually take that concept, and change it to something that fits my personal style and preference, so to keep it fun. This way I can give it my own stamp, and keep my motivation high as I brave a new problem.

When thinking about 3D challenges, our minds often go to social media platforms like instagram. This where you see the finished renders, which are always most impressive to look at of course. However, these are posts that pop op most frequently after such challenges are done. It's important to active on websites and in communities like BlenderNation and ArtStation, in order to get wind of challenges like these in time.
