1 Set clear goals

An example I always follow is the S.M.A.R.T Goal setting system - Specific : Needs to be to the point hence a clear goal can be set. - Measurable : Nothing out of the cloud, but within reach. Small steps matter. - Achievable : Part of a successful clear goal-setting exercise, it can be completed. - Realistic : Nothing fancy, but real-time completion guaranteed. - Secured within a Time Frame : Time-bound goals can be done which makes it secured. Keeping time as precious as the most important fuel, a leader's prowess shines on setting how properly goals can be set.

2 Prioritize effectively

The second step to evaluate a leader's time management skills is to observe how they prioritize their tasks and activities. Prioritization helps leaders to allocate their time and resources wisely, avoid distractions and procrastination, and cope with competing demands. As a leader, your Time Management speaks volumes: - Punctuality Matters: Late arrivals set a poor example. - Keep it Brief: Value concise presentations. - Stick to the Agenda: Focus meetings for efficiency. - Lead by Example: Commit fully to engagements. I recommend SIT - REP framework:- - Straight to the point / Simple Direction - Importance (Criticality/Urgency/Deadline impact) - Timelines (ask/agree) - Respect each other's Time - Emotional Intelligence - Positive Closure / heads up if delays A leader who treats his audience time just as his time has the right time management skill.

These are some of the great ways to stay on top of your list of tasks. One thing I also consider in time management is flexibility. Sometimes things change and new things pop up on your list without prior notice. Being flexible in your approach helps dealing with lot of urgent matters. Using your discretion to move things around on your ‘to do list’ is a valuable skill one can use. Of course this skill has to be complemented with prompt communication. Giving others a quick update on change of plans allows us to respect their time and let them decide their course of action.
