1 Know your data sources

Different data sources may have different levels of accuracy, completeness, currency, and consistency, depending on the methods, standards, and purposes of the data producers. For example, data from official agencies, such as the USGS or the EPA, may have higher accuracy and quality than data from crowdsourced platforms, such as OpenStreetMap or Google Maps. You should always check the metadata, documentation, and references of your data sources to understand their characteristics, limitations, and suitability for your project.

The best thing for evaluating the data accuracy is knowing its source. But whenever I catch some data for surface data I check them with accurate data like satellite imagery that shows things how they are. Furthermore, I check data with the ones that I know that they are accurate. for the data that we do not have any sources to check, I think the best way is to check them randomly but for the ones that we could check and have the tools to check. once I have some geological unit maps I check the accuracy with satellite imagery and the color and the texture of the ground surface were a good source to check the accuracy.

For one of my projects, we had to collect some data that presented the amount of rain in each station for a period. I check the accuracy using statistical analysis models. I used the double mass method. For another project, I used a run test to check the accuracy and after I was sure that the data were accurate I modeled them and created ISO Rain maps which present the rain for an area.

In my experience, I had some data for a water distribution system of a village and I want to check the accuracy. So first I checked them on satellite images and checked if they were in the correct place such as on roads, after that, I checked the topology of that data for the lines and the points. After that, I modeled it in network analysis and I could check the accuracy and usability of that data.
