Breaking the stories into micro stories: This has helped me in my previous PM stints, breaking the larger story into tiny micro stories which will have some deliverables at the end of sprint. Please keep in mind that there should be some deliverables. 3. Always have the buffer: Having buffer is the key, no matter how much ever planning one does, few things are gonna go south; so have the buffer.

The order of processing clear plan of resources and timeline can be: - definition of drivers and business goals - create rough solution (any architecture impact, e.g. ERD, BPMN, Sequence diagrams etc.) - decomposition of solution via achievable increments which represent business value - estimate and calibrate the increments in order to have achievable goals each sprint (in Scrum environment) - take into Sprint backlog and deliver (Scrum, as well)

Review is quite imp to track progress but to have effective review its pre requisite to have right matrices to measure. Most common mistake is that we rely on easiest matrix or more convenient matrix to measure success or failure, but it is more imp to identify right matrices. Sometime the initial results are favorable but it could be just by chance so in critical cases we also need to do satirical analysis to ensure that the results are not just a because of some random variation.

A long time ago on a trading floor thats not too far away, we were building products across many teams that were aligned to a 'project plan'. We knew we had to do more to create the alignment and delivery cadence necessary to achieve our ambitious goals. I have fond memories of creating the first 'feature teams' on that particular trading floor. Knowing when to run long-lived product teams over projects is critical to success. My lean is the former, but of course, there is a use for the latter. The rest is spoken about often but critical to success - what is the desired outcome? How is it it measured? Are we clear on the path? Are you time boxing to reduce uncertainty? How are you incentivising alignment? Who's accountable? etc...
