Target and objective must be measurable Performance and results to be reviewed regularly and periodically and review process Celebrate small Win of team and motivate Review in detail reason for failure along with team and improvise the process to have success and better results Have very clear and short term objectives

Establish clear goals, communicate expectations, provide necessary resources, track progress regularly, offer feedback, and adapt strategies as needed. Foster a collaborative and motivated team culture to enhance overall performance.

To ensure that the department meets targets , first thing is to ensure that the roles and responsibilities are clearly defined , cascaded and understood. Goals are "SMART" -Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Secondly -Two way communication, wherein the expectations and challenges both are heard and action upon. and Thirdly continuing monitoring the performance.

1.Set SMART goals and KPIs for self, which is linked to company's Vision 2. Percolate above Goals and KPIs jointly among down the line team members upto bottom most level 3. Prepare joint plan for achieving these Targets 4. Help the team in achieving these Targets by identifying the gaps and providing required support

First of all, targets must be set clearly and communicated effectively. Goals must be SMART Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Time bounded In order to be measured easily

Regularly monitoring and evaluating progress is essential to ensure your department meets performance targets. While defining clear goals - KPI/KRA, the governance around them plays a far more important role since this defines the achievement of these goals. The review of this progress should be enabling and not punishing teams for not achieving. These monitoring should be done to help them fill the gaps, mentor them, help them with solutions thinking and decision making. These meetings should be in a positive tone to encourage and motivate them to deliver on the expected outcomes sans few exceptions where you may have to take some tough calls.

Set the KPI's(Key Performance Indicators) for team and keep track on achievements for regular discussions with team. Give regular feedbacks for improvements and provide assistance to enhance the performance.

Delegation is important as it gives due motivation to individuals and helps in improving productivity. But the same should be done post due assessment of team members with clear communication and setting right expectations.

Effective collaboration creates synergy in the department. However, in order to achieve it, it is necessary to define the duties of the group members. Non-overlapping tasks and each member feeling that his or her work is contributing to the end result and being seen by the rest of the group, especially group management, promote effective collaboration.

During my tenure as Chief of Business Excellence, I had to work one-on-one with all my team members. I used the time-tested techniques of MBTI Personality Assessment, Harrison Assessment, Johari Window, Situational Leadership, and Behavioural Ranking. For the first quarter, I used to search and prepare the Kaizen of the month for a couple of my team members, I prepared hands-on VSM for some of my team members, but believe me, after the first quarter, they were so well versed with the techniques, that they would surprise me at time with their belligerence and diligence. Always stand by their sides as a hands-on demonstrator and lead by example.

My experience: 1. Loud & Clear communication of Targets to each level - include why part in communication. 2. Upskilling of team members 3. Define accountability & milestones, engage all. 4. Regular monitoring & take feedbacks - do course corrections i.e. how part. 5. Don’t forget to recognise good work - develop habit. 6. And last but not least - walk the talk.

Commitment and discipline are two other important components of a successful team. KPI, regular review and tracking, motivation, and process improvement are essential, but commitment and discipline are sometimes difficult to get and harder to maintain. And without these two, consistency and efficiency will drop and hence impacting the overall output and delivery of the team.

A clear vision of the organisation with properly defined tasks, targets, outcomes, etc including proper communication are definitely important to achieve the required performance. However, sharing the approach to the job activities among the Team members as the ancient Romans did, assuring the availability of updated tools and procedures will optimise the ratio between the time needed to perform the activity and the time spent for the job organization, monitoring, reporting, etc. Furthermore, the communication should be organised and regularly scheduled with the aim to avoid spot emails, calls, continuous clarifications and missing information.
