Location, location, location. Like real estate, for conferences the location is so important. Is it a union facility, is the venue easy to access by local transportation like trains etc... How are the hotels in the area equipped to handle your attendees? I have said for years that the hotels linked to the OCC in Orlando rarely seemed ready for our attendees. But for the McCormick Place the hotels are better but further away. However, in Europe like the RAI and Munich venues are superb all around. Think Security as well, don't always go with the venue suggested security if you don't have to. And get everything in writing.
