In my opinion, a well-defined succession planning process is critical to ensuring a pipeline of diverse talent. The first step in the process would be clearly articulate the critical competencies, experience, and values required for success in key roles. We are not looking for a laundry list but a list of critical few. The next foundational step is to define what competencies and behaviors are needed for someone to be considered a high-potential talent. Lastly, how will and how frequently will we assess the talent and readiness to take on more responsibility?
