The other protection mechanisms listed here are not completely infallible against inadvertently loading rogue software onto your device. Also, that risk exists when connecting over a private Wi-Fi or wired connection, hence the having the latest anti-virus protection is always a good thing.

Enabling 2FA for your online accounts is also a good idea to keep your personal data secure. Disabling file sharing as lot of the times malware can be transmitted to your phone via bluetooth and airdrop mechanism. Be cautious of network names as well as sometimes rogue wifis can be placed with similar names by threat actors. Continous logging and monitoring for proactive detect when any abnormal traffic patterns are detected.

In addition to all the other practices listed in this article, be sure to follow traditional, "old-school" best practices to avoid a potential breach. Don't use generic, or easy to deduce passwords, and don't write them down on sticky notes or any location that can be seen by passers-by. Also, if you need to use a laptop in a public location, try to sit with your back to the wall or use a screen so that others cannot look over your shoulder to see privileged information.

Any open public WiFi should always be used with VPN. This will ensure that all streams over plain text open comms are encrypted between endpoints. There is no excuse not to use VPN as many are free.
