If you do these things, you would have checked off two boxes. Availability and Integrity. You should also be doing your testing using the least amount of privileges or access as possible. Remember you will be doing damage based on the level of access the account or tool you are using has. Put on kids gloves and use tools that are as non invasive as possible.

All systems are different but a lot of times the manufactor may have a tool builtin to the computers BIOS that has Hardware testing diagnostic capabilities. I recommend checking your computer manufacturers documentation to see if they have that available. They may also have a software app that you can download. But, make sure to verify the software app is coming from the computer manufacturer rather than a third party to minimize the risk of possible malware.

No information is saved in any of the other components save for the bios, and flashing the bios to a known good firmware from the manufacturer’s website will be enough to ensure the bios is not polluted with viruses and such.
