How can you enhance your social work teaching?

Knowing the diverse needs of students is not enough. I work in a SPED room that specalizes in High School students with behavioral issues. These students need to know that you really know their lives an can deeply relate to their challenges. Having worked in group homes of adjudicated youth I know I can connect instantly with someone in a group home. I talk of how the staff in a home invariably have slightly different rules and expectations. How that isn't fair to the residents. How they then feel like they can't do anything right. I show I have the right to speak into their life first. Then the students will give you their respect, attention and are willing to work with you. Knowing their interests isn't enough.

Its important if we teach everything to a specific audience or community or specific religion in their mother tongue to get the positive results of education. then they can translate that into any language they want to proceed in their future. this will improve their every aspect of life health, social, economic growth etc.

I agree knowing your audience will make social work teaching less challenging. In my experience, students have preferred learning styles, and when not taught using such approaches, they usually try to opt out of learning. Through relationship building and observation, I have gotten insights into students' preferred learning modes; I try to incorporate such during teaching and learning. The process resulted in increased student participation and academic performance.

Connection of theory and practice. Network with like minded folks. Learn to fund raise, especially from foundations and trusts.

In my experience, connecting theory and practice have contributed positively to students learning. There are instances where I share life experiences with students so they get a better understanding of concepts. On other occasions, I link theory to their way of life or ask them to share their experiences. Using such an approach allows students to contribute to the lesson, and by extension, increase understanding of the concepts taught. Also, students easily remember the ideas and can apply the knowledge to other situations.

Working in a Title one (>75% Poverty level) school, and SPED environment you first have to break through: 1.) Why what your teaching matters. 2.) Why your perspective matters and is worth listening to. 3.) Convince them that they can successfully learn and apply what you are teaching. You can't do those three things students won't bother giving you the time of day.
