You always need to lead by example. I stress that I would not ask someone to do anything I would not do myself. If you wouldn't why should someone else?! That is not being a leader, that is being a boss. There is a difference between being a boss and a leader. A leader will join in, apologize and take ownership for their own mistakes. A boss will place blame and point at what needs to get done while walking away.

A fourth way to demonstrate your leadership skills is to seek feedback. Feedback is essential for learning, improving, and growing as a leader.
