Break down complex operations into smaller, tasks, reduce complexity to smaller. Do one step at atime. Identify dependencies ans address them. Be patient when you debug, some of the complex legacy code is like finding needle in haystack to analyse. Solve complex proble.s by multiple iterations of debugging, refactoring code untill required timecomplexity is achieved.

I love unit tests. Create many different positive outcome unit tests. Most likely values, minimal values, maximum values. Think of all the different ways the algorithm (or function) can be used - write a unit test for it. Then test for bad outcomes. Missing values, null values, out of range values, values that make no sense. Try to imagine all the ways someone can break your code and write a unit test for it. What are the dumbest things someone can do when calling your algorithm or code? A feature of unit tests is - those tests continuously run every time you check in code in the future. You'll quickly find if changes you made - break the unit tests
