- Sometimes, the first idea that comes to your mind when designing a space for a specific need is the best idea, sometimes it is not. You have to be open about your ideas and how you express them in your 3D modeling. Something you must have clear is what do you want to transmit to others when they see your render or 3D model. If it makes you feel something, try asking other people what they feel when they see it. Be openminded and listen to them. If your render or 3D model makes them feel what you intended them to feel, you are in the right path. If your render made them feel something different, rethink your concept and take into consideration their input to make the necessary changes.

I can’t stress enough on how important reference is. Not everyone has the ability to communicate efficiently through words especially when it comes to the look and feel of a scene. This is where reference can help make your life a whole lot easier. There are hundreds of websites that contain images that can be collected into a reference bank and it helps both the requester and the designer align on lighting and looks. I find myself collecting references (I use PureRef which is a free piece of software to create my reference banks) whether I’m working alone so I’m tethered or if I’m working with a team so we’re all on the same page.
