When approaching a mentor it is important to have specific learning outcomes you hope as a mentee for this relationship to give you. Is it a specific technical skillset? Is it navigating your career or your organization? Is it communication? Is it something else? Sharing this as part of your initial conversations with mentors then monitoring your progress on the specific learning outcome periodically is a great way to make this impactful.

LinkedIn as we know is an amazing platform to find such people and by putting the right filters in place and seeing the latest activity of the person on their profile we can send an invite with a note to them on what we are doing and how their experience will help us develop further and I've found many amazing mentors this way who have helped shape my career.

What worked out for me, was to reach out a few potential mentors. Have a very specific message crafted for them to respond to, like "I wanted to improve on my xxx skills, I have read zzz and aaa books and really looking forward to know how I can further improve. I have seen your posts talking about xxx, what would you recommend should be my next step." It is also important to be specific and concise as they might have limited time. Hope this helps
