How can you effectively answer questions about your work history?

I would choose to highlight the events, work experience and training I have had that is most relevant to the job I have applied for. This, I believe will provide the insights into my work experience that is important to the roles and responsibilities I am expected to perform for the job.

Being diplomatic and objective about negative job events is important. Of course if, you were terminated for cause, you must transparent but forward thinking in your explanation. I made a mistake and learned a valuable lesson…. If you resigned for cause, you had an ethical issue or disagreed on principle, be frank and objective about YOUR decisions and why you made them without mentioning names. Focus on your choices not blaming or revealing private information or accusing in any way.

Effectively answering questions about your work history involves highlighting your relevance and value: 1. Tailor Your Response: Focus on aspects of your work history that are most relevant to the position you're applying for. Highlight skills and experiences that directly align with the job requirements. 2. Quantify Achievements: Where possible, use specific figures and statistics to quantify your achievements. This adds credibility and helps the interviewer gauge your impact in previous roles. 3. Reflect Growth and Learning: Discuss challenges you faced and how you overcame them. This shows resilience and a capacity for growth, positioning you as a valuable asset who can adapt and evolve.

Your resume’ should point to measurable results and outcomes you want to be asked about. This will lead the interviewer towards your strengths. Of course truthful claims are easily explained.

Regardless of what you are asked, always make sure you communicate to the interviewer what you want them to know about your fit for the company and the job. Sometimes they don’t ask what you want to communicate to them. The worst excuse for not communicating what you want them to know is by telling your Coach “they didn’t ask me about it.”

When asking these great questions, after the answer, follow up by asking for specific examples that support what they say. If they can’t provide examples, they may not be telling you the whole truth. This is critical for you and deciding whether you want to work there or not.

Many employers prefer trainability over experience. One time in an interview, I was asked a series of questions where I had to rate myself on a scale from one to ten in categories such as motivation, communication, problem solving, teamwork, etc. The maximum score I gave myself for each category was nine. The interviewer finally asked, "Why won't give yourself any tens?", in which I replied, "There's always room for improvement." I later learned that particular response was why I got hired.

Remember in an interview there are two things going on. The first is am I the right person for this job? The second is this company the right company for me? both parties agree that these two questions are yes you can offer.
