How can you effectively adapt your writing style to your target audience?

Get to know your audience, and just like any other type of writing, choose a few people in that audience and write the article as if you're answering questions that they've asked (or should have asked). When I was speechwriting at IBM, identifying the audience was my first step. A speaking invitation would arrive with the event title and its audience - educators, media influencers, etc. I'd call the event planner for more details. What titles audience members were likely to have? Average age? Why are they attending the event? U.S. audience or international? What would they most like to hear from my executive, who was Sr. VP of Education? Then, I would ask for contact information for a few of the registered attendees, and would call them directly to ask why they were attending and what would they most like to hear from an IBM executive. After that, I wouldn't even begin writing until I developed a sheet on the purpose of the speech.

Audience is the most important factor. When you come up with their pain points then they feel familiar and read your content. I always try to be in their shoes, and give them practical solutions to their needs depending on the topic. People generally discuss their problems with the person they know can give them a solution, so I be like that.

Making relation in the problems their solutions and the purpose of your writing is the crucial aspect. not everyone can do it. You need to think from both angles; the audience and the brand you are presenting.

For technical writing ensure all first use acronyms are spelled out. You should avoid long paragraphs with different topics. Each paragraph should focus on a single main idea or topic. Each sentence in the paragraph should be related to the main topic.
