How can you differentiate successful entrepreneurs?

One of the most profound advice that I got was to have a conviction about what issues need solutions - problem that means something to you; find and contribute to someone else's if you lack conviction (or do not have one yet). This conviction should be your north star. You will find ways - people, tools, money - to eventually navigate into the vision you have. The worst thing is to try to have a 'solution' first - especially following the masses into some trending technology or field where your only guidepost is what and how existing unicorns 'made it'. 1. Find/have informed conviction. 2. Fight doubts ("Why") with "Why not". 3. Learn when things delay or derailed - embrace "yet" as a watchword.

Successful entrepreneurs work on a really long vision, it's so large it might look unachievable! They might not fully understand the risks, funds, or competitor lobby. And this helps them, because they start working towards the idea. Imagine working against decades old credit card system (by UPI), or the hotel industry (by Oyo) or joining the space race (by AgniKul).

When I look at the traits of successful entrepreneurs, the one common thread they all possess is starting ventures that align with a cause, passion or purpose much bigger than themselves. They love the work they do, and it's so aligned to their values and deep motivators, that they're able to build a thriving business. They surround themselves with a team of people who are aligned and are equally passionate about the big picture because each team member can see how their role contributes to the success of the organisation. Lastly, they have a mindset, inner beliefs and behaviours that propel them forward towards the goal. They're always working on personal and business development because they understand its importance along the journey.

This intrinsic motivation not only fuels their drive and determination but also helps them overcome obstacles and setbacks. Entrepreneurs who are deeply passionate about their mission are more likely to persist through challenges, inspiring their teams and attracting customers who resonate with their vision. Additionally, having a clear sense of purpose provides direction and clarity, ensuring that their efforts are aligned with their long-term goals. This passion and purpose create a strong foundation for sustained success and meaningful impact.

True, that creativity and innovation set the new entrepreneurs apart for two reasons- 1- The enterprise utilises the existing user cases to explore the gaps and look at the issues with a new perspective. That enables them with a scope to innovate to fill those gaps creativity. 2.The ability to take risks in the process of providing more personalised products and services. Creativity and innovation lets the entrepreneurs look at the challenges with a different perspective, a out of the box dimension and a growth mindset. This indeed enables them in taking the setbacks in their strife and to see them as new opportunities to create and innovate.

What differentiates successful entrepreneurs is their unwavering commitment to creativity and innovation. I believe that their ability to constantly seek improvements, embrace challenges, and remain curious allows them to stay ahead in competitive markets. From my perspective, this innovative mindset not only offers them a unique value proposition but also ensures sustained customer loyalty.

Creativity and innovation can create new opportunities. Of course. An underrated value to it is, it allows you to be unpredictable to your competitors.

Look at the downfalls of existing offerings, and who feels the pain the most from those shortcomings. Then Think deeply from first principles on how best to solve that problem, for that niche audience. Expand from there.

Sometimes, it's best to not overthink it. If you consider the entire journey it can become daunting. Instead, just take the first step, then the next, then one more, then another. Build a habit an inch at a time: that next feature release, that next great hire, one more sale in the books. If you don't stop doing, if you just show up day in and day out, one day you'll look back and marvel at how far you've come and it'll feel like magic.

My prof taught us something that I believe in till today, as a two-time entrepreneur myself- "The only thing that matters in entrepreneurship is the ability to get punched in the face by failure every single day and have the grit to get up and get back in the ring the next day." The idea is that smart people figure out a way to win, in the end, if they play long enough.

Self-discipline and persistence are indeed pillars of entrepreneurial success. I've learned that showing up can be a game-changer, especially on days when it's the last thing I want to do. It's in those moments of pushing through reluctance that breakthroughs often happen. Every day presents an opportunity to make progress. Consistency in action, fueled by self-discipline, turns small daily efforts into significant achievements over time. It's not just about the grand gestures but the persistent, disciplined steps taken every day that build a successful enterprise.

Honestly - self-discipline is not at all my strong side. I am terrible at getting things done... But luckily my PASSION is super high - and I think that is maybe a little like persistence...

The most successful entrepreneurs display remarkable persistence. They refuse to give up despite facing numerous challenges and failures. Their unwavering determination and ability to learn from setbacks ultimately lead them to achieve success. For me, persistence and self-discipline are two sides of the same coin.

In my entrepreneurial journey, I always try to listen with intention. If you really listen… to your employees, your customers, your marketplace… the answers you need are all around you. Don’t be afraid to take chances, make mistakes and embrace the failures. It’s what you’ve learned from them and how you act on them that can make all the difference!

Adaptability and flexibility are essential to meeting customer needs in complex sales. Navigating this terrain demands skill and the capacity to adjust to shifting customer requirements. Quickly adapting and adjusting offerings to evolving customer needs is crucial for maintaining competitiveness amidst changing markets, and aligning with customer demands.

Adaptability and flexibility have been critical in my entrepreneurial journey. With the pace at which things change, our window to foresee the horizon is forever narrowing. I've initiated highly effective strategies for a quarter, only to overhaul them entirely as the market dynamics shifted. I liken this constant change to a puzzle or an ever-evolving mystery where each piece's placement could change rapidly. It instills agility and resilience in one's approach. I've found this perspective beneficial; it mitigates the pressure and turns challenges into engaging continual learning and adaptation. The speed of change isn't a threat but an opportunity to innovate, recalibrate, and advance with informed, flexible strategies.

The founders I've been most impressed with, are fully locked in on their values and intentions. Fully flexible on everything else. Rigidness doesn't work in the startup world.

Surround yourself with others who think this way. Constant change, pivots, on to the next thing - crucial mindset for entrepreneurs and founders. But, won’t be the stability and consistency that majority of people are after.

In my journey, leadership and teamwork are enriched by open, authentic communication. Disagreements are not barriers but opportunities for growth, unveiling new perspectives and solutions. It's about creating a space where every voice is valued while the team structure and leadership are respected. A very short definition of a successful entrepreneur.... One who is making profits and has his team, be it employees or vendors or clients, standing by him through thick and thin.

Who start with a vision to satisfy consumer's need (known or unknown). In this process he creates value for all stakeholders in sustainable manner.

The previous 5 points are indeed fantastic. However, the key characteristic that comes to mind when it comes to identifying a successful entrepreneur is.... Resilience. It's great to have passion, purpose, creativity, innovation, self-discipline, adaptability, flexibility, leadership skills, and teamwork. But when adversity strikes and push comes to shove and it seems hopeless, seeking solutions and having a positive outlook on how to bounce back and make that proverbial lemonade is what makes an entrepreneur successful to me.
