There are often employees in your organization who are passionate or even experts in certain areas of leadership that can lead a discussion/an internal learning session around leadership topics and behaviors. This model should be used continuously to keep a leadership dialogue going.
My favorite is a stretch project database. Encourage leaders to share projects they wish they could tackle if they had time. Articulate competencies needed to drive that work and help people connect the dots to the skills they need to practice. This provides leaders with equitable exposure to talented staff who can do things we assumed they can’t (hidden potential due to our biases). This also lifts the burden for managers who struggle to help high performers become high potential (hard to interview when you don’t have practice) And it gives staff meaningful access to collaborate with leaders they may not spend time with on a day to day. Coffee chats are nice too but gaining a mentor who leveled you up on a project is so much sweeter. ?
