It can be tough to do so, but by genuinely trying to help others as much as possible and just doing the best you can every day (and celebrating those wins) you can maintain a growth mindset.

Setting up a process to assess your Hiring Manager's satisfaction can be helpful. This can be a simple Google form you share after each successful hire. It can ask for an overall score on the process, what worked well and not, the candidates' quality, etc. You can then have a debrief on the points they addressed if needed. This gives the HM time to put real thought into it and actually add constructive points that may be forgotten during a casual chat. You then also have very concrete feedback that you can use and metrics you can track over time. For example, does the same feedback come up each time? does your HM satisfaction score increase over time the more you work with them? This can show progress or if further action is needed.

Every day is a school day! The best way to develop is to take advice and criticism from both clients, candidates and peers. I think it can be often valuable to ask a client for example how they have found the recruiting process at the end of a search. Not only does this present you the opportunity to negate any concerns going forward on a future search but it also lets you learn from what they may have seen from previous recruiters they worked with and the intricacies of how they like to work. Ultimately these small changes can be the key to developing a long-term relationship or getting those few extra placements through the door.

Early in my recruiting career I sought constant feedback from different audiences. From my hiring managers - I wanted to know what wasn't/was working for them. Were they getting the candidates they were wanting to see? Was I setting realistic timelines with them? Were they getting too much (or too little!) communication? With my candidates I would ask them how is it going in the process, like - are your questions getting answered? Am I timely in my responses? Asking for feedback can be hard, and, too often we tend to dwell on what we perceive to be negative feedback. Taking the time to reflect only makes you stronger with new candidate or role you pick up.

No matter how big or small your successes and goal achievements are. By celebrating them, you can take a higher satisfaction and motivation view. Both, personally and with your team. Setting milestones to keep conscious about the progress inbetween rather than only waiting for the end-result.
