How can you develop financial literacy to support your career development?

In your financial journey, you have to first know where you were you are at before implementing changes. This stage is not for you to condemn yourself but to allow your numbers to give language as it pertains to your money story (script). I might add that dealing with your finances is not only tangible but spiritual as well.

Knowing where you stand financially is very important. Having funds available for personal training. Or knowing you have funds to cover a few months of living costs while you search for your ideal job. This gives you freedom and you don’t have to take the first job that turns up, or you can leave a job that you really don’t enjoy

Find a person or resource you trust to give you good independent information. If you don’t understand something ask, or find someone who will explain to you. It doesn’t need to be complicated

Developing financial literacy is not just a valuable skill, but a crucial one for career development. Here are some steps you can take to enhance your financial literacy and boost your career: Start by reading books, articles, and blogs on personal finance, investment strategies, and financial planning. There's a wealth of information available that can help you understand financial concepts better. Learn about different investment options, such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and mutual funds. Diversify your investments to manage risk effectively. Join professional networks and forums where you can discuss financial topics with experts and peers. LinkedIn groups and forums like Bogleheads are excellent resources.

Be willing to learn. Nobody knows you better than yourself. You probably know what you are uncomfortable with, what are you doing about it. Be willing to fill those gaps. Learn, ask, build!!!

When I decided to steward my money better, I resorted to literature. Reading opens your mind and causes you to unlearn behaviours that are detrimental to your growth. Also, reading stories about how others overcame their financial woes was motivation that I can also achieve financial freedom.

There are a lot of resources that provide good ideas about taking care of money. Just make sure you understand the basics and put into práctice inmediately

Goals have to clearly defined with timeline. I've seen many people falling short of their goals because they invest randomly without thinking it through. One also needs to assess his own risk appetite before choosing a financial instrument to put his money into. I think this article needs a lot of improvement.

As a woman of faith, I relied on God to help me become a good steward of the resources he gave to me. How you deal with money is moreso related to your mind. Completely agree What is not tracked cannot be measured. It's to not get complacent on your journey but strive to maximize your income to its fullest potential.

Future financial planning should always begin with quantifying the amount to be saved; to be parked for emergencies; to be invested and to be spent. It goes without saying that one has to have a clear understanding of the subtle but important differences between saving and investing.

I tell my clients all of time, celebrate your wins big AND small. When you don't, you discredit the effort and sacrifice you made. Having a gratitude journal is a plus as it keeps you grounded.

One thing I found very helpful is to understand your spending style. Are you someone who is too generous, a hoarder? Where do you like to spend your money... Is it clothes, coffee, giving to charities? Understanding this allows you to build better personal financial budgets and plan your expenses accordingly. It also allows you to identify areas where you may be able to cut your spending in case there is an adverse change in your financial position.
