How can you develop a diverse set of programming language skills?

Be open to learning and on the path of trying and failing. Make sure to invest time weekly if not daily to push your work to GitHub to encourage your progress. Baby steps every day is the answer to developing anything good and new in life. Pick that programming language you have been wanting to learn or your colleague bragged that "he/she knows it". Then, learn the smallest possible thing you can today and every day. Keep tinkering!

This is pretty interesting and brings back bad memories. When I got into coding, I thought to myself, "I'm going to know every language out there." This was "crazy me" speaking. As years went by, I started to learn what it was that I wanted to build and found the languages and tools that would help me build them. My advice is to figure out what you want to build and see which languages you can use to help you. You'll find that you can use and still learn a variety of languages. Perhaps part of your application involves JavaScript and the other parts involve Python. Even if one project doesn't involve a lot of different languages, perhaps the types of projects you want to build involve various languages (e.g., apps and physical devices)

Pick quality over quantity, please! Stacking a ton of languages on top of each other without truly understanding them does not really help. I much prefer being good at one language than terrible at all of them.

One way to really learn languages is to build projects with them. If you just use the terminal or just print everything to the console, then you won't really see the cool things you can do with the language. Take JavaScript for example. One way to learn JavaScript is to simply keep printing everything using "console.log()." But this won't show you all of the things you can do with JavaScript. You need to eventually start building stuff. With JavaScript, specifically, you can build apps with React Native, websites with just React, and other applications that involve APIs. Doing this with any language will help you understand many of its capabilities. And who knows, maybe you'll build something that can help millions of users/customers.

If you really want to diversify your programming language skills, you obviously have to keep up with the trends. I'll speak from my own experience. I never go a day without seeing something tech. To ensure I'm always staying on top of things, I follow tech people on Instagram, and TikTok, and read articles like these on LinkedIn, Reddit, and Medium. You should seek ways to stay on top of things. Maybe subscribing to tech newsletters or using existing accounts you have on social media platforms to stay up to date (i.e., following accounts related to what you're into). This kind of initiative has helped me a ton in my life. I've seen so many tips and tricks in 30 seconds which have helped me save hours in my work.
