How can you determine the right pesticide dosage for crop protection?

Are YOU serious? Is this a joke question ? Pesticides are helping kill Planet Earth!! Organic non synthetic pesticides and insecticides .. well they are a different story. It’s about time Bayer / Monsanto looked harder at bio organic products.

Pesticides dosages are the better judge for measuring Economic Threshold Level (ETL) claiming the position means justified to control from the severe infested to minimal infested levels and the stages of damaging insects where the effect of chemical is more in suppressing at varied permutations combinations.

Engaging in scientific research involves delving into the Minimum Effective Dose (MED) concept, aligning with the economic principle of maximizing returns at optimal utility. This consideration extends to timing, frequency, and, importantly, safety precautions. Another avenue involves leveraging precision agriculture tools like remote sensing and variable rate technology. Segmentation of fields based on pest levels and crop stage facilitates pinpoint pesticide application, minimizing usage, enhancing efficiency, and elevating crop quality and yield.

There are well documented protocols for setting dosage of pesticides (1) in R&D at time of invention (2) in green house trials representing field conditions 3) in controlled trials on target crops and pests through at least three different dosage applications 4) following registration protocols set by EU US CIB and research universities for product type and crops. 5) Checking translocation of pesticide through roots, stems, or foliage 6) logging each result and checking for half life, residues, phyto toxicity and mortality 7) double dosage on succeeding crop 8) four Agro climatic geographic zones for trials for 2/3 seasons. 9) literature study and mode of action mapping 10) application techniques like spray solutions, hardness, nozzle etc.

You can understand the type of chemicals solids/liquids, their application methods with ease, mode of action, type of insects for which it needs to be applied, efficacy enhancement by the decaying/destroyed parts of the plant system.

Package of practices of universities in States; leaflets that accompany the packed product ; company representatives; dealers that sell ; and own expertise determine correct dosage of pesticides along with how to apply ; what water and nozzle to use ; what is the spraying interval and when to stop before harvesting. Dosage is controlled in India by CIBRC certification for each product crop wise approved. One should not arbitrarily spray as that would harm crops and may not get desired results. Use genuine pesticides only as directed like medicines.

How about analyzing the dose-response curve of pesticide levels in foods and human illness? Optimal level of poison? This article is a joke.

The simplest way of dosing the correct dosage is to read the label. However if you first treat the water with R-Eau you can reduce the dosage of pesticide by 30% or more and achieve the same results as by improving the quality and oxygenation of the treatment water this will improve the plants interaction with the chemical. The benefits are economical, increased efficacy and environmental as less chemicals enter the environment

One of the reasons to avoid synthetic pesticides altogether is the resistance to them that builds because that's what Nature does best - it evolves. GMOs incorporating such genes took millions to develop, and are effective for only a short period of time. On the other hand, if the land is functioning optimally, plants have innate pest resistance capabilities and will also be functioning optimally. A healthy soil builds a healthy food web that keeps predators and prey in balance naturally. Until that time comes, we can encourage predators, such as parasitic wasps, to hang around our crops by planting trees or other habitat near fields. Biodiversity is our biggest friend so we must stop seeing it as wasted extraction opportunity.

Chemical Ag has ensured that the true toxicity of its pesticides will not be studied. When the laws regarding approval & authorization were written, the industry lobbied that only the active ingredients should be tested for approval. That way formulations could be changed quickly without requiring new testing/proof of safety. This resulted in adjuvants in formulas sometimes containing substances significantly more toxic than the active ingredients! In addition, once an active ingredient is approved, new mixtures don't need re-assessment, and the synergistic effects can be way more toxic. The residues often stay on the foods, and the cumulative amounts of microdoses are significant. They're terrible all around - and unnecessary.

Why are we still of the mindset that pesticide use is acceptable? Pesticides wipe out 99% of the good organisms to deal with the 1% target. “Pests” are indicators that the system is out of balance - usually because there aren’t enough predators (ie there isnmt enough biodiversity) or because the soil is not being properly managed. Of course farmers don’t want to lose their crops, but throwing chemicals on doesn’t address the root of the problem. Fix the soil issues, and build up biodiversity such that the predator/prey balance is achieved, and the problems disappear - permanently.
