If you have specific performance metric targets in mind this is a no-brainer. But if you are not sure what your targets might be, it can be a little overwhelming to set targets upfront. Either way running scenarios will allow you identify your current benchmark, and if you have specific targets where there is room for improvement, or if you have exceeded them spectacularly. Just like pricing, you don't want to be too cheap, and there could be cost savings or market advantages to be obtained by applying limits.

There are many options available in the market, ranging from open-source to commercial, from simple to complex, from code-based to GUI-based. If your product is highly configurable, it can seem challenging to create scenarios that reflect real world customer usage, especially if there is not a typical customer. If you do, great, use configurations similar to theirs in the scenarios. If not keep it simple, test critical paths, API through-puts at load, throttle it, add concurrent usage, but most importantly document the findings. Sales teams will want to know. And be honest with your customers with what was tested. They might have some interesting suggestions for future scenarios.
