Assumption - An optimistic or pessimistic user usually wants as much liberty and control as possible. How to help 1. understand their needs by conducting an extensive research as their needs are very personal. One type of research that could be very useful is ethnographic research. 2. allow them to be able to personalize the UI. E.g light or dark mode, theme, typography, language etc. These personalization could also be automatic based on their location, atmosphere, cultural background etc. 3. Make the opt out option very accessible.

By understanding user goals and emotions, it enable you gain insight into what motivates them (in the case of optimistic users) and what gives them concern (in the case of pessimistic users) and tailor your solution by creating an inclusive and positive experience (for optimistic users) and addressing their concerns (for pessimistic users)

I find that optimism and pessimism have little to do with a persons, ability to complete tasks that are necessary for their day-to-day life. Understanding the origin of their frustrations, the goals that they have within the system, and offering the “ path of least resistance” to complete these tasks are of the greatest importance.

Giving the user a sense of control is vital in any digital surface. One way to look at it is context. In which context is the user in while using this app. Google Meet is a great example of such contextual adaption. While you are on a call and the app detects that you are walking, it instantly gives you the choice to enter On-The-Go mode.
