1 Understand your users and data

De mon expérience une bonne navigation à facette repose d'abord sur une structure de données précise et efficace. Il est important que les données disponibles correspondent aux critères de recherche des utilisateurs. La création de user-flows et de personna peut être d'une grande aide dans la conception de la structure de données. Il vaut souvent mieux voir large sur les informations dont on peut avoir besoin et donc détailler le maximum d'aspect d'un produit/type de produit.

You could start with prioritizing the most commonly used or impactful facets and display them prominently. Consider the context of the search and adjust the visibility of facets accordingly. You can also dynamically adjust facet visibility based on the user's search query or behavior.

2 Choose the right facets and filters

Choosing the right facets and filters for your faceted search is the next step. You want to provide enough options for users to narrow down their results, but not too many that they get overwhelmed. Also, avoid redundant or irrelevant facets that do not add value or clarity. When selecting facets and filters, consider frequency, importance, compatibility, and diversity. Frequency looks at how often users use a certain facet or filter; prioritize the most frequently used ones and hide or group the less used ones. Importance evaluates how important a certain facet or filter is for user decision making; highlight the most important ones and de-emphasize the less important ones. Compatibility examines how compatible the different facets and filters are with each other; avoid facets and filters that conflict or contradict each other, or that produce zero results when combined. Diversity looks at how diverse the values of a certain facet or filter are; use different types of filters, such as checkboxes, sliders, or dropdowns, depending on the number and range of values of a facet. This will help inform and reassure stakeholders while providing valuable insights for improving your cloud security posture.

Sur le terrain le choix des filtres émane souvent d'une hypothèse ou d'une recherche + générale sur le secteur/la concurrence. C'est un bon point de départ qui peut être complété ensuite par des sondages/interviews utilisateurs.

3 Design the interface and interaction

The final step in designing the interface and interaction of your faceted search is to make it easy and intuitive for your users to access, apply, and modify the facets and filters, as well as to see and understand the results. To do this, you should consider visibility, feedback, flexibility, and consistency. Visibility can be achieved by using different layouts, such as sidebar, top bar, or accordion. Feedback should be provided through indicators, such as counts, badges, or breadcrumbs. Flexibility should be enabled with controls such as checkboxes, sliders, or buttons. Consistency should be maintained through labels, icons, colors, and formats that are consistent and meaningful for your users and your domain.

The complex searches can be represnt as a search process. In steps I can guide the users to the relevant content, product or action. It can be more engageing rhater than using many filters. Of course the decission is up the conclusion after research of the audience and purpose of the module.
