In order to filter out spam from regular email we need to first identify the words and pattern that would stand out most in regular emails and Spam. Whilst it is difficult to define an organic conversation pattern for a regular user, it is easier to define words that stand out most in Spam emails. One other way is to identify the email address it self using the domain name look up approach combined with modified regex to identify whether the email actually came from a business user or a random user. At a second tier a classier can be used in this case open AI model GPT 3.5 turbo with a relevant few shots from the users email history can serve as a good approach to also identify intended audience.

Our main aim should be to gather user data of our tagging and leveraging it to train our models. For APIs, we can use micro services for separation of concerns, better modularity and overall easier maintenance of our APIs.

What is important to remember is that the weightage of Type I and Type II errors are different in this case, like most cases where we use some sort of logistic regression to evaluate yes/no, given a set of inputs. The penalty for a false negative (unable to identify a mail that is actually spam) should be lesser than the penalty for a false positive (mislabeling a valid mail as spam). In the first case, there is an extra mail/message in someone's inbox, they might opine the filter is bad, but that's all. In the latter case, a potentially important mail or message gets filtered out and lost, with potentially much worse consequences. So it is important to use a proper error function with higher penalty to false positives.

Apart from machine learning, I feel some sort of mechanism should also be added that would check the URLs inserted in the emails which would download malware, some servers running on a different virutal machines should extract the URLs and test for kind of attacks.
