My tip for portfolio/personal websites is to try and choose a domain that will make you stand out, I chose .mn as the initials of my name and it's always a conversation starter ("Do you own that domain?", "Nope, its Mongolia!"). List out your skills, qualifications and interests. I would not recommend adding a pdf of your resume as there may be information you want to include or remove for specific roles, plus it may become outdated quickly, you can ask visitors to reach out to for the latest version of your resume. Setup analytics so you can see where your visitors have found and where they are from. Also, make it really personal and add in links to your Instagram or social channels so visitors can see who you are in the real world!

Having a Website with your best work and testimonials is key. You can't sell your services without showing you know what your talking about. The best first customer is Y-O-U.

Please understand that a well-maintained professional social media presence can serve as a live demonstration of your digital and social media marketing skills. First, build and showcase your ability to engage with the audience, create compelling content, and build a community for your own pages. Building a personal brand showcases that you do have the keen interest as well as capability to do it. Simply put, as they say, you should wear your mask first before helping others.

Metrics, while essential, are the result of strategic planning and execution. For example, when showcasing a successful campaign, it's important to highlight how the strategy was aligned with the overall business objectives, and demonstrating that level of strategic thinking that connects individual tactics with broader business goals is key to showing an advanced understanding of digital marketing.

Volunteer and offer your services to a non profit (with the understanding that you will share the work and the process in your highlights). They can also link to your portfolio website from their own. Volunteering is a win-win. This is especially true if you come up with original ideas, sometimes they are easier to move forward with in these contexts and, if successful, can become case studies for commercial engagements that address a similar audience.

Share as much as possible case studies and use cases. And don't avoid talking about failure. This will provide signals of expertise and digital mind set. Pro bono work, for instance helping non profit organizations in digital visibility and sharing results, can also be a strong indicator of digital experience & know how.

Create bespoke examples by industry. Identify key metrics of each industry and highlight output of the digital marketing initiatives can be measured.

What @Lee-Bath (comment bellow) says is certainly true. Occasionally, use your skills for volunteer work. There are even companies that showcase it on their websites. In the Netherlands, for instance, you have the Vrije Gevers. Highly recommended, and you'll do so much good :)

Additionally, I would suggest not forgetting to enhance your presence on external platforms. While assembling samples of your work and creating a great portfolio and website is essential, it might not be enough. You need to consistently work on increasing awareness of your personal brand. Participate in relevant podcasts and webinars, or contribute to articles like this one.
