How can you deliver a motivational speech with authenticity and sincerity?

Motivational speaking is all about telling your story with a strong mission & purpose. The goal is to tell stories that focus on the ability to Attack + Connect at the same time. I saw this first hand I had the ability to solve problems and do incredible things but the lack of ability to connect was keeping my voice from making an impact on others. Using both together has changed every aspect of my life and relationships around me.

Do not be rigid and keep a poker face. Feel free to let your emotions speak for themselves. But at the same time, do not sound too dramatic. Be realistic and speak in a way that appeals to your audience.

Purpose is a must for everything we do in life. Without purpose, we will definitely feel lost. The purpose should be to help ourselves as well as others. Some people need a slight push to progress in life and a motivational speech may help them achieve this. Outline your purpose and then chalk out the plan.

Agreed, but it is really much simpler than this. Be honest and vulnerable and speak from your heart. When you do so, people not only hear your words but they feel your truth.

The story is supposed to have everything, covering the mundane and the extraordinary in one flow, but the flow has to be directed to specific focus , specific points. Hence predefining certain actionable points, take home messages and expected immediate response is the key to resourceful talk.

You are here to help someone achieve their goals. And you will be successful in doing this only if you know the needs, pain points, aims, etc. of your audience. Once you are aware of the above, it becomes simpler to customise a solution for them. You definitely don't want to shoot an arrow in the dark!

The motivational talk is for the people in front of you not the person on the stage or the brand behind you. If you plan it in that way your message will resonate with them. Understand what they want to hear before you decide what you want to say.

'Be yourself, everyone else is taken.' Being original is the key and helps you establish a place for yourself. Imitation is easy but will not get you anywhere. Even if it may seem difficult in the beginning. But as you consciously make an effort to express your thoughts and opinions, you will feel more confident and empowered to help others.

You could give the same speech topic to 5 different people and get 5 different amazing speeches. Why? Because each person has their own stories, experiences, lessons, and style that makes it unique. Remember what makes you stand out and let that shine. I used to be scared to be funny when I’d give speeches. I thought it made me look unprofessional but it’s a big part of my personality. I love making people laugh. Once I figured out how to incorporate humor and stay professional it was a game changer.

What I've found really useful is to be clear about my audience and my message. Who are the people in the room? Who was invited from what industry. What was the promise to them if they attended? I need to have prepared myself. Dressing comfortably, and have had a drink of water. Knowing my topic is important to me, having a good grasp so that I can confidently and reassuringly respond to any questions. I like to inject a note of humour as it tends to relax me and my audience. I find if the joke is about me it lands well. Speaking from the heart, from an authentic place makes it easier to introduce myself into the frame.

Agree re humor! It’s even better if that humor targets oneself: recounting stories of one’s own “missteps” allow the audience to identify with you. And if you’ve had any measure of success in any field, you’ve definitely had some missteps! Everyone appreciates a presentation that leaves them motivated and learning how to turn that motivation into being more successful in their given field . It’s as important to hear that success is achieved by experiencing and then acknowledging one’s missteps along the way..and self-deprecating humor is the best way to share those experiences!
