Drawing from my experience in the recruitment field, I've observed that the most effective approach combines a scientific analysis of data with a deep understanding of human psychology. I've found that while data like skills and experience are critical in assessing candidate suitability, it's the psychological insights—understanding their motivations, personality, and work style—that truly make a difference. The real art lies in the human touch. Building genuine relationships, empathizing with candidates, and understanding their unique aspirations has consistently led to more successful and fulfilling placements. This blend of science and empathy is what transforms recruitment from a transactional process to a meaningful journey.

Just don't go with the regular flow, Be ahead of the curve. Try it once you may fail initially but you will succeed, I tried it and yes it worked!! :)

I do not limit myself to any specific technique to identify root causes. As a hands on recruiter with 19yrs of expertise, I feel meeting stakeholders, partners, TA team and reviewing data points itself can answers all possible scenarios and allow you to tackle it in best possible manner. A lot of times, I like to source, sit with team on portals, ask HM to sit with us and help with a winning pitch to attract the best candidates. I allow recruiters to share their thought process and see clarity, add a few pointers and search for multiple sourcing options.

A quick meeting and open discussion can help sort out pros/cons of various options. Before starting, it is important to understand the outcome expected, timeline, cost factor and sourcing channels which have been successful for the organsiation. Solutions should be scalable, result oriented, ownership driven and stakeholders should be made aware about strategy to achieve it. Too much process orientation kills the creativity part and sometimes risk can be hugely successful. I usually have Plan A/Plan B ready to take care of variation or delay in achieving milestones and it works most of the time.

Do have good connect with peers in industry and see how they are performing, exchange notes, seek feedback, share challenges.

It’s interesting, when people talk about problems in recruiting they immediately go to sourcing strategies. Recruiting is so much more than sourcing. It’s the ongoing end to end management of a candidate journey and the more we think about this, the better we will become. Good sourcing is useless if your process is poor, feedback loops don’t exist, your hiring managers are poorly prepared or you are just too slow. So like any problem, map the workflow, use data and look objectively at the root cause of your issue.

I think creative thinking should be the absolute norm for recruiters. And it’s not just about choosing platforms, keywords, or filters, but also about communicating with people. For example, we at ITExpert had a case where a developer wanted to refuse an offer because his friend invited him to another project. This was a rare position for which few candidates could be found (and of course needed to be filled ASAP). The recruiter offered not only to compete for the attention of this candidate but also to recruit his friend (who also had a similar skillset) to the project. Such non-trivial solutions and flexibility will help you fill many vacancies!

I believe the creative way in problem solving within the recruiting process is "three fits" hiring, Job fit-Culture fit- Value fit. Best all 3 fits will reduce attrition and higher motivation and engagement.
