Shoot medium format film. 35mm is no longer really contributing anything unique. Medium format film has a beauty of its own that survives scanning. Scan the film. Pass on the darkroom. Explore color filters and their effects. Less know are haze and soft filters that create atmosphere unique to film and not well emulated digitally. Hassy Softar is a great hollywood style beauty filter. ~TEU

Interesante pregunta. Cada película tiene una característica diferente, dependiendo el fabricante y lo que querías lograr. En películas a color mi favorita era Ektar 25, Ektapress, Realla y Konica 50, grano fino y colores suaves de piel tomando en cuenta que lo que más se fotografía son personas. Para fotografía Urbana, Artística, o alguna temática que así lo requiriera sin duda la gama de las películas Ilford en B&W, como siempre, todo quedaba en tu gusto y utilizar la que mejor se adaptará a tus necesidades, todo sirve para algo, pero no todo para lo mismo, me parece que está frase esta frase es de Quino y aplica muy bien a esta pregunta

Moreover, shooting in B&W enhances our perception on textures, shapes and patterns, which can lead to mesmerising photos. Rule of thumb: keep it simple and let the image do the rest. ??

Black and white, infrared, or special films from Lomography or the like can always be interesting- but my favorite thing to do with film is build my own cameras, or modify existing ones. It's super fun to use a camera that you created from start to finish and take a good photograph with.

Color negative is where anyone venturing into film should start really. Kodak Portra film stocks are the trusted brand & perfect because of their versatile lineup. Though not far behind is Fuji, CineStill, and Lomography film stocks as well. With each film type ranging from iso 100-800 & beyond, each can produce different outcomes in exposure as well as temperature in white balance. There is a plethora of film blogs out there that go into depth on how to rate & shoot certain film stocks like The Darkroom. I would agree using a black promist filter or polarizing filter if shooting outdoors with bright natural light can definitely help with glare & overexposing highlights. The best way to learn is to educate & make mistakes.
