How can you create a safe space for learners to ask questions in your training sessions?

Once you finish an exercise you can ask people to describe what they have seen and experienced. From these statements you can start asking questions. Turn in a way so there isn’t ??name & shame?? from a wrong answer. If people are shy to answer in public, identify during the training who has kind of leadership and start with them. If someone never interact, take time at the break to have 1to1 conversation. They could have a good reason or just being too shy to talk, or maybe they need you to give them the mic ?? Depending on our culture we can act and react differently.

As a trainer or facilitator, leveraging questions is invaluable. They break the barrier of 'I'm big or you're big' concept, fostering a culture where everyone learns from each other. Questions allow assessing learners' needs, monitoring progress, and providing feedback. They also facilitate dialogue, interaction, and collaboration among peers, nurturing an environment for shared learning experiences and mutual growth. I’m a huge proponent of peer to peer learning. Whenever I facilitate a training I make it clear to the participants that I am not the only source of truth, and that each of them should feel free to contribute their own experiences and answer their peers’ questions. By de-emphasizing my role as the sole source of knowledge, it empowers participants to participate in the learning environment, opening up diverse insights and perspectives from everyone involved in the experience. Sometimes when an instructor positions him or herself as the sole expert it makes people hesitant to participate, or causes them to only participate to get praise from the instructor. Empowering everyone to be experts ensures everyone is engaged in the experiences.

Encouraging questions from participants during workshops or training sessions is essential for fostering engagement and facilitating meaningful learning experiences. Here are some strategies for encouraging questions: - Use icebreakers - Create a supportive atmosphere - Ask mostly open-ended questions - Always actively listen - Always provide positive reinforcement - Engage and use most interactive activities - Encourage peer-to-peer learning - Be Open and approachable Based on my facilitator experience, implementing these strategies can create a positive and interactive learning environment that encourages questions and promotes active participation from all participants.

Lead with questions. Craft the session around questions, inspire people to explore, and inspire people to get curious. Teach them by doing what you're teaching. get them thinking, engage the brain and the mind. Ask them about what they want to achieve from the training. Ask about their experiences, ask about what's worked, and what hasn't. Ask about what they'd do differently as a result. Find out why it's important to them, how the new tools will impact their world and inspire new thinking through better questions.

In the training I do, I first do a test round to see where the student will have the most difficulty and I also like to see the student's first contact with the exercises, as there are many learning profiles. In this approach, I start by talking to the student and getting them acquainted with some of the challenges, so I encourage them to start thinking about the style of the exercise and begin to develop a more questioning and reflective approach, such as "what is the point of this exercise?" "what is the greatest difficulty of this exercise?" "when should I use these tools?" and so on, so that the student understands and thinks about their daily lives and the training becomes richer and more meaningful.

Repeat and confirm! Take the time to be sure you understand what is being asked. If necessary, ask refinement questions to help BOTH parties get aligned about the question being asked.

Listen first. Show you care, show you're interested. Make them the most important person in the conversation. Mirror the language, and use their words in your response to let them know that what they said was important. Thank them for the question, thank them for having the enthusiasm and courage to ask. Positively affirm the asking! And then... Explore the questions with them. Is it relevant? Where does it come from? What are they looking to achieve? What are they looking for? Use the question as a chance to connect, create dialogue and build a conversation and encourage new thinking.

As openly as possible. No question is bad. I always confirm that it's what the person wants to know, I always answer with practical examples, with objectivity and after that I make it clear that I can explain in as many ways as necessary and that there's no problem saying that you didn't understand. While I'm explaining I like to analyze the student's expression and I also like to explain carefully to them, without touching their cell phone or anything like that, because it's an important moment.

2 ways to get it almost right :) - Set a strong connect with audience in the start of training, so that handling difficult question becomes easier. -If you are unable to answer the query, politely accept and say " I will get back to you on this by tomorrow" OR "Can we connect on this once the training is done ".

Dealing with challenges during workshops or training sessions is important aspect of facilitating a successful learning environment. However, some of my ideas/strategies helps me effectively managing challenges: - Always expect / anticipate potential challenges - Always stay calm and composed - Address challenges promptly - Always adapt and be flexible - Always it is good idea seek input from participants - Always maintain open communication - Remember the most important is lessons from challenges – post WS keep a self reflections or diary for future reference Those are my ideas I applied during my workshop effectively manage challenges during workshops sessions and ensure a positive & productive learning experience for all participants.

101 set clear expectations at the start. How we speak to each other. How we support each other. How we build each other. Making sure that we are giving space for people to speak, and that we speak we respect and support at the forefront of all conversations. Anyone can say what they like as long as it's done with love and respect. It's also good practice, as the facilitator to make sure everyone is supporting the person talking. Taking time to focus in, rather than be distracted or taking over.

My motto is “Your success is my success”. I make sure that team knows how important it is for them to complete the training and successfully apply the skills to their job. I often use humor to diffuse difficult situations. That’s a really good starting point especially when you’re dealing with a behavior issue such as coming back late from lunch, numerous side chats, or looking at their cell phones while in training.

I think starting the process by the trainer (me) sharing a vulnerability transforms the training from the beginning. It builds trust, it positions everyone as peers and personalises the trainer. It can also serve well as a lead in to stimulate creativity if it is handled in a team focused way “how could this have been handled better”, for example. It opens the space as a safe space for discussing failures and weaknesses.
