I think more than knowing an audience, people must understand the problem their content will solve. If you know the problem you're solving, you automatically know the audience.

Isn't it the other way around? Unless one experiences a brainwave, is it possible to start writing? On the flipside, is it not true that every idea, subject or thought will automatically attract a set of people who will either share the same idea, or will love to add a new one, that sounds great or makes good sense?

Empathise with your audience. Know how people feel about current events, and inspire them with hope. Give them an emphatic solution and compell them to action.

The purpose here must be the outcome you want. The best purpose to write on social media is for discovery purposes, and I focus on maximizing views for that. The focus on discovery should only be in the initial days of content creation.
