How can you create engaging content for users with varying levels of expertise?

For all audiences, the general rule should be: - less is more, - the simpler, the better. Don't think you can impress experts by using a lot of technical language. Even they appreciate that you get to the point and don't overcomplicate things. Instead, let your facts and expertise speak for themselves, backed up by concrete examples. Blowing up boring content with a lot of words will fire back. Audiences are smarter than some communicators think. Of course, you still need to differentiate between audiences, which can range from CEOs to school children. For the latter, you obviously have to simplify the content a bit more. Choosing different formats, whether it's reels, graphics, slideshows or podcasts, will help in your targeting.

This is the most important aspect of creating any kind of content. Who is consuming it? You cannot expect to speak a language with someone who doesn't understand it. Whether it is the tone, language, platform, campaign style, setting or medium - the first step is to define audience persona. Thereafter everything falls in place.

I’ve straightforward approach—don’t try making content for everyone. Figure out who you’re speaking to and then tweak your content accordingly. For example, with my personal finance content, I make solution-oriented content around mutual fund investing, SIPs, term insurance, health insurance and budgeting. While creating an engaging learning content you shouldn't forget that you need to use language that can tap each and every learning styles, with ease and engagement. This can be achieved through easy to understand language and the suitable readability score of your content in an interactive way which can help them immerse in a learning experience. Usage of key terms to define technical terms help them sail smoothly through technicality of the course. In conclusion the language should be conversational which can give learners a sense of belonging and connection with the content.

Absolutely this is another important consideration that depends on the difference in learning styles of the people. Everyone is unique in their own way to absorb the knowledge and gain success. Multiple formats helps cater to the need of different learning styles. Videos, reading materials, interactives, audios, podcasts, option to record their answers, options to draw, etc provides great opportunities for every one in the course to chase and achieve their goals.

Identifying learning styles using multiple intelligences and then creating learning resources based on the top 3 or 4 dominant intelligences of the learners will help in enagaing the learners. The learning resources should be of three difficulty levels - easy, medium and challenging - this will also engage the learners

Branching and "choose your own adventure" are powerful tools that save time and actively engage users in the content they want/need, instead of overwhelming them with information. These tools can also be employed in innovative ways with other platforms and systems. Both tools have free trials and templates that can inspire you with some ideas on how to use them efficiently. At the end of the day, it's all about designing the experience you'd want yourself.

Go modular with your learning paths and curriculum. Have certain foundational or prerequisite courses mandatory while offering flexibility on other parts of the curriculum. Next, make sure you offer certification or recognition based on logical completion of learning paths or curriculum. As all learners may have varying levels of competition in such a scenario, you must also have the tech to support such an implementation.

The best trick is to use the layered approach. Start with simple, broad overviews before delving into more complex ideas. This helps beginners grasp the basics while allowing more knowledgeable readers to skip to the sections that interests them.

I've noticed that the best speakers have a foundational idea that they hammer home several different ways. They have some higher-level ideas they sprinkle in throughout. And then there are a few brilliant insights that only a few will understand that they mention almost in passing. This feeds listeners at every level. Do the same with your writing: ensure the main principle is clear to everyone. Sprinkle in some additional insights. And then share one or two lines devoted to the experienced professionals.

In some of the initiatives and campaigns that I have run in my organizations, we have used techniques like social media competitions, quizzes, polls and call to actions. This encourages the audience the deep dive into the content to understand engaging with it for these activities. We have seen much success with using these techniques.

Creating interaction allows you to get to know your audience and from this create the kind of content in the format they want and like. - Creating and monitoring trends (challenges, trending songs etc) can really boost your profile and content. - People like simplicity and ease of interaction: quick polls, competitions and “this or that” formats. - choose your visuals and fonts that align with your brand - check trending and popular hashtags to optimise reach and grown your engagement - don’t be afraid to change things if there is no engagement - review the insights real - Time to ensure the concept is working

Now that we have various AI tools, we need to understand where to take AI's help and where not to. Engagement has become a different ball game now.

Offering a pre-test before starting the programme can also help to tailor the experience for the learner. The pre-test can help to check the learner’s current level of understanding and will help to tailor the content presentation according to the learner’s depth of understanding. Understanding the learner’s preference of experience can also tailor the learning experience and create a greater and more lasting impact.

So many great suggestions. I’ll just one point- instead of thinking outside the box, sometimes knowing what the box is helps. So before moving to greater aspects, understand the users/consumers and majorly their intent.

Speak your truth. People will gravitate to your message if it resonates with them. So much of today's marketing is about segmentation and top of funnel advertising. I think there is still value in being true to yourself and the messages that are coming through you, and need to be expressed into the world. Sometimes the analysis of the market and crafting the perfect message ends up getting in the way of the unfiltered content that needs to be delivered.
