When the employee is not on target to hit the planned goals, you should review the action to get there. If they are not inspired by their goals, they will not thrive in a performance environment.

It is very important to know as to why a few team members are not able to meet expectations .It could be lack of training or even lack of motivation..Training can always be provided to upgrade the skills of an employee .Lack of motivation need to be addressed at an emotional level ..It could be the job , salary or the environment which demotivates an individual ..If the employee or team member is in love with his / her job, the salary or environment may not cause any demotivation . So as a part of continuous improvement it is essential to know the state of the mind of the employee . It is not possible to motivate an individual or make improvements in areas one simply is not interested in ...

Give a day off and take the whole team for an outing. Try to divert them from the usual routine and motivate them to crawl out from under their rock. Plan a fun activity like a trekking camp day or a team game or something that will involve the whole team. Give them the space to understand the whole team as well as an opportunity to interact freely. This will further strengthen the morale of the team that will reflect in the overall performance at the end of every quarter. The more you care for your team, the more you can expect from them in terms of results.
