Many partner programs have a training and certification requirement, although few tell how that is expected to impact the partnership progress and success in metrics that do matter for your partner. As a vendor, make sure you track how training and certification impacts relevant business metrics for you AND for your partner - and the impact, either positive or negative, will be made clear to them. Doing so will allow your partner to business value from that investment, track the ROI and invest more as the partnership grows - which is much better than investing only for the sake of ticking off that item on your requirements list. It’s not easy, but that eventually will become another good reason on why partnering with your company.

This can and does include employee skill development and training. One powerful way to help your partners be a better business is to find a way to extend your own internal employee systems, processes and methodologies out to your partner community. This helps them be a better organization AND it creates a common language that everybody can speak to.
