You don’t… at least not at first (and yes, I’m generalizing)…. But in the early stages of your career (& especially if you’ve had to break in without much mentorship/support) you will run into this problem, where you sacrifice more than you get back. But you learn…. One thing I’ve adopted, is reflection on the things that worked well, the things that didn’t work well, and the actions I would take to correct the things that didn’t work well. And of course implementing those changes on the next go around. Over time, I’ve found this has helped me to better achieve success with project outcomes, inclusive of staying within budget and timeframes.
