1 Establish rapport

Totally agree especially the part where we have to show genuine interest. Human crave for attention and by showing interest we can give them attention they want. But dont try to dominate. The problem when having conversation is that sometimes we want to talk about ourselves too. This is counterproductive when you establish rapport. People like to be heard. It is a basic human need. Therefore talking more about your self will not fulfilled this basic human need.

It's totally fine and expected to face situations like this while teaching, especially if you're teaching kids or on an online platform. I always keep some of my props ready to get back their attention through showing colors, changing tone of voice, calling by their name etc. If it's an adult or in person class, I sometimes consider taking a break and talk about random things that interest them, so that they can have a breather and have a fresh start once again!

The is a need to created a good relationship with someone like that first of, so it'll not look as one intruding eventually but asides that a lot of things has to be shown to such person and he/she has to understand a lot which would be shown to him/her in the light of conversations with him/her.

Get them to relax and focus on the breath so that they have something they can keep coming back to if they get distracted. It becomes a foundation to quieten the mind .
