First need to understand who you are communicating with, internal or external recruiter. Blindly sending your resume to an internal recruiter saying "help me find a job" doesnt illicit a response. Internal recruiters work on specific roles for the company they work for, whereas external recruiters may focus on a certain role and have multiple clients they service in those roles. Do your homework first and you lower your chance of being ghosted per se...but remember, applying to a role and not getting a response, is not ghosting. Ghosting occurs after a 2-way conversation has been established.

No matter what communication it is, we should be patient, respectful and have humanity. With an update it's best to keep the message brief and to the point in a professional tone. One tool I use when I get busy is using my OOO (Out of Office) with a short message saying, "Thank you for your email, I'm currently in meetings and interviews and will respond to your message within 24 hours - Thank you!" that way, this lets the candidate or prospect know you're message was received and will have a response in an appropriate time frame.

I’d do it within 3-5 business days and be polite and considerate because many recruiters are working the jobs of 2-3 people. I wouldn’t pester them if I don’t hear back on the follow up. You can also try other people in the company that will probably have less crazy inboxes - like the hiring manager, your future colleague etc

It is important to address these expectations on the front end and before you wrap up your interview / phone screen. When you ask for timelines and general expectations, it makes following up seem like more of a follow up on a deadline that you are holding them accountable to.

3 business days at most. Timing is a massive factor in hiring. Time kills all deals. Don't let it kill your chances at the position.

Instead, I focus on restating my interest in the position and asking a specific question, such as if there is any update on the status of my application or if there are any additional steps I can take to move forward in the hiring process.

If reaching out to a recruiter to help you find a job - this is not the best approach and a waste of inmail credit It is important to look at the industry the recruiter is supporting at this time - and reach out accordingly to let them know you have applied to a position within the org and would like to chat with them. At this time, all other communication would possibly not go answered as the TA industry is inundated and could use the help of job seekers to be aware of what they are asking of the recruiter at this time

When following up with recruiters, be specific and actionable. Mention the company's recent news or partnerships, and how your skills and experience can help them achieve their goals. Offer to help the recruiter with something specific, such as giving a presentation, writing a blog post, or finding candidates for other positions.

Yes, there could be a "glitch" with emails going to spam or junk folders but having been a recruiter for over two-decades there is no excuse for a recruiter not respond to an email or message from a prospect or applicant. Yes, we all are busy, have heavy workloads but as recruiters we're there to engage with talent whether they're interested in the openings we're working or not, we're all there to bring and introduce talent to the company. I welcome anyone to contact me through LinkedIn or if you have my work email to contact me there and I follow-up with everyone within 24 hours who contacts me, even if there's no update to share.

If you're following up on an application, reference the job title and your application date. Would you like to be emailed and texted and called and InMailed at once? Neither do recruiters. That's overkill. Try one channel first (ideally their preferred way such as text) and then move to the next after a reasonable period if there's no response.

If you have followed up with the recruiter ONCE and the don't get back to you, I would move on. Contacting them via multiple channels and/or trying to go above them may backfire and not be in your best interests.

To start with, be straight, precise and to the point And if the recruiter doesn't want to talk to you, move foreward. Apply backwards same level of medicine. You don't need to go around begging. Learn to respect yourself. Acting this way you shield yourself against loosing self motivation

2 pieces of advice: Be professional. Be honest. If you get or accept another offer, tell the recruiter. Don't just go silent. If you're no longer interested in the role, say so. Don't start playing games with compensation when the offer comes. The time to discuss what you want is before you get short-listed.
