I'm going to agree with the first and last sentences of this. You should indeed learn from civil engineers, learn what they want you to know, and learn what they know that can help you be more successful. Learning how to use certain software, or the details of the methods of civil engineering are best left to civil engineers. Principles of materials science, locally and regionally available solutions, pros/cons, estimated costs and schedule impacts are all interesting topics, and are part of the art and science of civil engineering.
